Anna will be giving a talk, poetry reading and book signing.
She was born in Hackney, East London, to a Chinese father who spent his first 20 years in Britain in Liverpool, and an English mother. She writes as a journalist for the South China Morning Post magazine and has written for various other publications such as the Guardian, New Internationalist and Tribune. Her programmes for BBC Radio including the groundbreaking 10-part series for Radio 4: Chinese in Britain; A Celestial Star In Piccadilly about Hollywood's first Chinese screen legend, Anna May Wong;
Her first poetry was published by Jonathan Cape when she was 14. Her collection of poetry — Reaching for my Gnu — is published both as an ebook and in paperback by Aaaargh! Press.
Her theatre shows include Suzy Wrong, Human Cannon at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; Anna May Wong Must Die!; and The Steampunk Opium Wars, commissioned by the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
She's now writing her memoir, The Chop House. And then she'll get on with Coolie (about the construction of the American trans-continental railroad in the 1860s); and The Steampunk Opium Wars.
